Enterprise School District, which rests in the shadow of the stunning Wallowa Mountains, is the educational foundation for over 400 students in Enterprise, Oregon. For years, the educators and staff have been fighting roof leaks to keep students dry and learning. But, in 2021, issues with the roof’s aged TPO membrane became critical. Unfortunately, the need for a roof replacement was met with continuous delays and challenges related to supply chain issues and budgeting limitations. This pushed the timeline far out and left district officials in a bind.
With winter quickly approaching and 40% of the roof unable to handle the weather shift, the executive decision was made to put on a coating system as a temporary fix. While this was a short-term solution meant to keep the school running, a long-term solution was still needed. This is where Palmer Roofing, from Pendleton, Oregon (which is about two hours west of Enterprise), came in.
They knew of the school’s struggles and were ready to help. From the beginning, they believed that Duro-Last®'s X membrane, which is known for its ability to combine the convenience of roll goods with custom-cut lengths and has a wide range of warranty options, would be perfect for the school. So, they made the bold decision to place a material order before they officially won the bid to avoid the same supply chain and material shortage issues that had halted the progress last time Enterprise tried to get their roof fixed.
Mark Boodt, the manager of Palmer Roofing, shared a bit of their logic, “Supply chain delays were still a big challenge throughout the industry. At the time, polyiso insulation had a nine-month lead time. My thought was, even if I wasn’t the lowest bid, we would be the only contractor that could perform the project because we had the materials ready to go.”
And when the bid went live, Palmer’s preparation paid off and they got the project. Over the summer (to avoid any school closures) a crew of 23 got on the 100,000 square-foot roof and started working. A little over 11 weeks later, they were able to proudly present the Enterprise School District with a completed reroof and a Duro-Last 20-Year NDL warranty. Tim Hart, the vice president of Duro-Last, shared a few thoughts, “The Palmer team approached this project with confidence because they had a manufacturer they could trust. “They trusted Duro-Last to deliver the materials they needed during the supply chain challenges and they trusted Duro-Last products to meet the school’s needs. After years of deteriorating roof conditions, the school no longer has to worry about leaks. It was definitely a rewarding project for everyone involved.”
