Drug-free Policy is a Topic to Share with Your Customers

RCS Influencer and partner Heidi Ellsworth says contractors are making a difference through drug use policies and their commitment to their employees.

Often, roofing contractors are shy about sharing what they are doing.  You need to be proud.  Whether it is great training, community service or employee benefits, it is important to share your story. Concerning our Influencers topic this month, How has your Drug Free Policy changed with today's new state laws?, it is amazing the comments on the RCS Forum and what contractors are doing across the country as marijuana is legalized in many states.   Our roofing professionals are making a difference on how they run their business and keep it safe.

From a marketing perspective, this is a topic that needs to be shared with customers.  They want to know that you have a strong drug policy and it is enforced.  They want to know how you have helped your employees and kept the rooftop safe.  Take the time to share this information on your website and in your marketing materials.

We hear about random drug tests and the problems with legal and illegal drug use.  But how often do we hear about how roofing contractors are making a difference with their drug use policies and commitment to their employees.  It is a great topic to blog about and share within your associations and local groups.

Many roofing contractors are making a difference, not only everyday with their employees, but also in the construction industry overall.  Check out the Construction Coalition for a Drug- and Alcohol-Free Workplace, (http://www.drugfreeconstruction.org ).  According to the website, The Construction Coalition for a Drug- and Alcohol-Free Workplace (CCDAFW) was created with the purpose of providing companies and organizations with the resources necessary to successfully implement an effective substance abuse policy.  Many roofing contractors have taken the initiative to join fellow industry leaders in pledging support to work towards eliminating substance abuse-related incidents on construction jobsites.

You may ask why partner with a group like Construction Coalition for a Drug-and Alcohol-Free Workplace?  The following sample of roofing companies, plus many more who can be found on the website, have pledged their support to eliminating substance abuse-related incidences in the workplace.  They are telling their story and making it a part of their culture.  It may be a good place for you to learn more and share your story of a successful drugfree environment.
