Drones, 3D models and the future of service

ServiceCon - Drones, 3D models and the future of service
January 4, 2025 at 6:00 p.m.

By Dani Sheehan.

Join industry experts at ServiceCon 2025 to learn more about technology that’s transforming the roofing industry and how to use your service division to grow your business.

As a second-generation roofer, Army veteran and commercially rated helicopter, airplane and drone pilot, Kerrick Willis has spent his career immersed in the roofing industry. From laborer to foreman to superintendent, he’s gained valuable hands-on experience specific to the field. Today, as owner of GeoSpatial Integrations (GSI), Kerrick is taking cutting-edge technology – including drones and 3D modeling – into the commercial roofing sector and other industries.

Kerrick will be a featured speaker at ServiceCon 2025, where he’ll demonstrate just how accessible drone technology can be. Through GSI and in collaboration with other industry experts, Kerrick has been exploring innovative applications for drones, including creating detailed 3D renderings of buildings to streamline communication and improve service efficiency.

“I like to try to spend at least a portion of my time – if I can get to 10% – in the industry or using the technology on the front lines,” Kerrick shared. “I like to stay involved in roofing companies and make sure I truly understand what’s going on.”

By leveraging the power of drones, which provide six to ten times the resolution of satellite imagery, Kerrick hopes to help contractors pinpoint issues with precision and communicate more easily with clients. “My long-term goal,” he explained, “is to recreate a 3D rendering of a building that we can share with a client or property manager. Imagine being able to triangulate the location of a leak based on client input before even picking up the phone. It simplifies communication and enhances efficiency for everyone involved.”

At ServiceCon 2025, Kerrick will share his expertise in drone technology and 3D modeling. Attendees will witness the step-by-step workflow required to create 3D models, including service use cases to show how this technology can be applied practically. “We’ll go through how easy it is to create these models, if you follow the proper workflow. It’s essentially a checklist,” Kerrick explained.

Kerrick also highlighted the value of the conference’s roundtable discussions. “These sessions will allow participants to bounce ideas off each other, reinforce what they’ve learned and decide whether the technology is feasible for their specific needs,” he said.

As a successful business owner passionate about his work, Kerrick believes in the power of leadership through service. “Leadership is about serving the people under you. If you take care of your people, they’ll take care of your customers and everything else will fall into place.”

Don’t miss the opportunity to learn from Kerrick and other industry leaders at ServiceCon 2025 this March 12-14, in Houston, Texas. Register today to explore the transformative power of technology and discover how to use your service division to stay ahead of the competition.
