A series for everyone, Lunch & Learn is all about nourishing your brain as you nourish your body — so grab your co-workers and some lunch and tune into this month’s Lunch & Learn!
Most contractors have an idea of what roofing systems are faster to install, but is it scientifically backed up? In the new Lunch & Learn, CertainTeed gets to the bottom of the question: which has the faster installation speed, single-ply or multi-ply roof systems? The answer that they find might be surprising to some of you!
Join CertainTeed’s Abby Feinstein as she shares the results of the professional time trials they ran on the tram at Paul Crandall & Associates in 2021.
“We approached a credentialed roofer with CertainTeed that we'd known for a long time with the opportunity and said, "Hey, we basically want you to find a job where they will let you put three roofs on. We're going to do a fully adhered TPO roof. We're going to do a mechanically attached TPO roof, and we're going to do a two-ply SA,” says Abby, explaining the process of CertainTeed figuring out which roof system goes on faster. “Same roofers, same level of experience, same number of people, same roof. The only difference was the product.”
Abby shares actual footage of the timed trials with us alongside the results, as well as talks about the benefits of offering self-adhered SBS. Seeing is believing when it comes to this timed trial!
“I would say the headline is that the systems are comparable, but there are savings minute to minute, and this was only a 60 square roof,” says Abby. “So if you start to extrapolate to larger jobs, these play out to bigger numbers. So with the three-ply SA half lap, it was 50 minutes faster than the fully adhered TPO, and about a half hour (32 minutes) slower than a mechanically attached TPO.”
Download the learning guide, and launch a discussion with your crew about what self-adhered SBS and TPO product time study results tell you about how you can improve your company’s production, performance and customer satisfaction.
