Cotney Construction Law Encourages Participation in OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down This Month

Cotney Construction Law Participation in OSHA Stand Down
September 3, 2020 at 6:00 a.m.

By Karen L. Edwards, RCS Editor.

Contractors can participate by simply hosting a toolbox talk on fall prevention or conducting inspections of the integrity of safety gear.

Well-known in the industry for their defense of contractors against OSHA citations, Cotney Construction Law also encourages contractors to develop strong safety standards and policies to keep their workers safe. That’s why they are urging contractors to participate in OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down, an initiative to stop fall fatalities and injuries, taking place September 14-18, 2020.

OSHA describes the initiative as a “voluntary event for employers to talk directly to employees about safety.” Participation can be as simple as taking a break to focus on the dangers of falls and discussing how to prevent them. It’s easy to participate and they even provide suggestions for how to prepare a successful stand-down. Once you participate, you can provide feedback and request a certificate of participation that demonstrates your commitment to a safe workplace.

At RoofersCoffeeShop®, we have an entire section of our website dedicated to the topic of safety. Cotney Construction Law is a co-sponsor of the page and their attorney Travis McConnell contributes regular articles and tips to help contractors fully develop their health and safety plans. Travis specializes in “matters relating to OSHA defense, which includes the management and development of safety and health strategies for construction contractors across the United States,” according to his bio.

Despite best efforts, there are times when a contractor might be facing an OSHA citation, or even be targeted by inspectors. In those instances, it pays to be prepared. One of the best ways of being prepared is understanding your rights during an OSHA inspection as well as what defenses to use after an OSHA citation has been issued.

Committed to protecting the contractor and defending them against OSHA citations, Cotney Construction Law has written the book ‘OSHA Defense for the Construction Industry.’ This book is available for free and features valuable information on safety compliance.

The OSHA Defense book is a must-have tool for any contractor, simply complete the request form and your copy will be sent to you.
