Contractor Stops Mom’s Leaky Roof After Coming up With a Unique Idea

Paul Peebles used his years of experience as a log home builder to conquer tiny leaks in the valley of his mom’s roof.

I had the pleasure of recently visiting with Paul Peebles about a story I had been hearing concerning the very interesting use of a product called Through the ROOF!®.

Paul started his career as a contractor focusing on log home building. Before getting in the log home industry, Paul worked in beer distribution!  Now, not only has he become an expert in log construction and proper construction techniques, he also passed the test to gain certification as a building inspector. That is quite a feat considering he had no intention of working as an inspector; he did it for the sheer reason of gaining knowledge in housing construction. He has also become an expert in energy efficiency for log homes and has helped conduct energy tests at Oak Ridge Labs in Tennessee.

I asked him about the Through the ROOF!® story that I had been hearing about and he shared his experience.  “My father passed away a few years ago and I was helping my mom out.  I noticed mildew on the ceiling in the living room and called a local roofer to take a look.  The leak was not easily identifiable, and it took three inspections to figure out that the leak was coming from a valley.  We received a bid and the cost to repair it was just too much for my mom, so I had an idea,” shared Paul.

“In my job I had been using Through the ROOF!® and it always worked great. I thought, why not use that in the valley and see if we can repair the area until we can do a full re-roof,” he continued. “The Through the ROOF!® product seals roof leaks that asphalt can’t. Paul bought a bucket of it and poured it down the valley covering it. “That was 4 years ago, and it has not leaked since,” he smiled.  “By taking the bucket and coating the roof, it took care of the tiny leaks that no one could find.  It restored the roof by taking care of tiny punctures that are hard to find but you know are there.”

He has built log homes, restored them and taught many others the trade in his career.
