In a recent episode of CoatingsCast, Heidi J. Ellsworth sat down with Jenn Brake of Brake Marketing and Management and Chris Huettig, the current president of Roof Coatings Manufacturers Association (RCMA) to talk about the advocacy work RCMA is doing for the coatings industry!
In addition to Chris’ work as RCMA’s president over the last few years, he has almost 30 years in the general roofing industry, with over two-thirds of that time spent working with KARNAK. Jenn is also involved in RCMA, as she is their new executive director. Beyond her work there, she has been involved in trade associations for over a decade now. She explained her motivation, “I knew it was my calling. It incorporates entrepreneurship, marketing, manufacturing — all the things I love. So, one of the things that I really enjoy, I like to find new and creative ways for members to engage with one another, collaborate and push the industry forward.”
RCMA is known in the coatings industry as one of the oldest roofing associations and the only advocacy group created to exclusively serve the interests of the roof coatings industry. Chris elaborated on their purpose, “We are an organization that is here to give up-to-date information on building codes, on standards, on technology and other industry topics that are important to like-minded manufacturers who do what we do. We play a critical role in being the voice of this industry for those different critical things that may affect the coatings industry.” The membership of RCMA includes everyone from coating manufacturers and raw material distributors to testing labs and contractors.
RCMA works in many ways to serve and uplift their members. Jenn highlighted a new website they are developing, “This will be the hub. This will be a place that not only members, but nonmembers will be able to come to. They'll be able to find technical information. We'll have an industry calendar there. And then our members get even more, they're going to get a new info hub and this info hub will be available both through the website, but they'll also be able to download an app right on their phones.”
Chris also highlighted how this website is an extension of their work at events like the Fall Meeting, which will be held October 23-25, 2024. He shared, “This is a place, in our Fall Meeting, to meet people, come face-to-face and talk about what you do and how your businesses can work together. And I think that always helps and everybody enjoys that. The new website with all of us communicating better is just going to make all that function and work a lot more proactively for us all and a lot more expeditiously.”
