It’s no surprise that roofs get beat up the most, compared to any other part of a building. Structurally, if the roof is not built with a strong application, the result can be disastrous. Spray Foam is a viable alternative to many roofing applications. Having been around for nearly 60 years, spray foam roofing applications have improved over time and displayed their longevity. Here, we discuss some of the benefits of using Closed Cell Foam for roofing applications.
Moisture barrier Closed Cell Foam works as a moisture barrier, preventing water from soaking into the pores – an important feature of any roof. The high R-Value that Closed Cell Foam possesses, after the Resin and Isocyanate cure, minimizes the space between the compounds – resulting in a strong moisture barrier. It’s continuously connected surface protects the roof against water damage and infiltration.
Building reinforcement Whether it’s used for a residential or commercial structure, spray foam adds reinforcement to any building. Spray foam insulation increases structural strength of residential and commercial buildings by as much as 300%. The graph below shows the increased Racking Load in a home tested with both fiberglass batt insulation and spray foam insulation – a clear indication that structural strength is increased when using spray foam. High R-Value Closed Cell Spray Foam has the highest R-Value of any insulation, which is a benefit in itself. Not to mention, most other roofing applications do not serve as an insulator.
Longevity of roof SPF Roofs tend to outlast many application methods. In fact, spray foam has been tested in high hurricane winds in Miami, Florida and proven to withstand the damage. Depending on the spray foam manufacturer, foam is expected to last on a commercial roof for years longer than competing applications.
