The past year has been challenging for everyone involved in the roofing industry. The impacts of labor and material shortages were further compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic, all of which have been consistently acknowledged by the Western States Roofing Contractors Association (WSRCA).
In Part 1 of their 2021 Year in Review, the WSRCA highlights all the content and resources they have offered members in January through June alone. They state that this year their primary focus, “was to drive greater value to our members, when they needed timely resources, now more than ever.”
Here’s just a few of the highlights:
By becoming a member of the WSRCA, you have access to a wealth of webinars they offer year-round. In the first half of the year, they held over a dozen webinars ranging in topics from safety to company growth.
One of the webinars they offered was a four-part series on workplace safety, featuring John Kenney, the chief operating officer of Cotney Attorneys & Consultants. The series tackled topics such as handling hazardous materials, fire safety, silica dust prevention and electrical safety. This webinar series and more can be found here.
With the law constantly changing, it’s valuable for companies to keep up with all updates to legal practices. WSRCA has once again partnered with Cotney Attorneys & Consultants to keep members up to date with new laws and requirements. Amongst updates mentioned are COVID-19 regulations, new drug laws and HR updates.
This year, WSRCA has offered a variety of technical bulletins to update members of the roofing industry with new building codes and safety regulations. One of the bulletins they offer is their Guide for Maintenance Coating Low-Slope Roof Membranes, which covers how to choose a coating system for low-slope roof membranes and how to prepare a substrate for that coating.
The Year in Review also highlights the ways in which the WSRCA is boosting young voices in the roofing industry. The association started the podcast The Roof Deck, hosted by the WSRCA Young Roofing Professionals: Jackson Johns of National Roofing Company, Rachel Garcia of Malarkey Roofing Products and Shane Wakerling of General Roofing Company. The podcast aims to help young professionals in the industry grow by answering questions based on the hosts’ experiences.
Not only that, but the WSRCA once again offered their Davis Memorial Foundation scholarship to individuals interested in furthering their education within the roofing industry. The 2021 winners each received $5,000 towards school expenses.
