Check out some of this year's developments in snow retention!

TRA IRE 2024
April 11, 2024 at 9:00 p.m.

By Emma Peterson.

During IRE, we caught up with TRA Sun and Snow for an interview! See what products and programs they’re working on!

Back in February, the Coffee Shops’ crew were thrilled to join exhibitors and attendees at the 2024 International Roofing Expo (IRE). This three-day event is the biggest trade event in North America and introduces new equipment, information and technologies to the global roofing industry. While there, Lauren White got to catch up with Mindy Dalhquist from TRA Snow and Sun to learn what innovative solutions they brought with them to their IRE booth!

TRA is proud to be celebrating their 30th year of operations and Mindy is their business development manager. She works with everyone involved, from architects to contractors to manufacturers to keep people safe in the winter. Mindy’s LinkedIn page explains, “As an AIA HSW CE instructor, I deliver fun and educational courses on snow retention design and installation, tailored to the needs and interests of my clients.”

Catching up with her was the perfect way to learn all the interesting things TRA is working on this year. When asked about this, she explained that the newest product that TRA has developed is the FlashFree Fence. This is a snow retention tool that can be used on asphalt shingles, slate, simulated slate, or shakes. It is designed to be fastened to the roof deck on new construction projects. Mindy elaborated, “This is a product that takes the place of a shingle or a tile piece, instead of having to utilize that piece of material and then screw down through it.”

In addition to this exciting new product, Mindy and TRA are working on new software to make it easier to find the right snow retention system for each roof system. She explained, “We are also working on some software currently and are hoping to have a platform where people are able to log in, purchase and do the engineering and all of that in the background online.” This program is still being developed, but it’s an exciting opportunity to keep an eye out for in the next few years!

Watch the full interview to learn more about TRA Snow and Sun and what they’re rolling out this year!
