February 8, 2025 at 1:00 p.m.

The lightweight panel offers superior fire resistance of up to four hours in various wall assemblies and is more than 10% lighter versus standard 5/8” Type X drywall options.

CertainTeed®, a leading North American manufacturer of sustainable building materials, has announced the addition of FireLITE® Type X Lightweight Drywall Panel to its interior products portfolio. This new product strengthens CertainTeed’s extensive offering of interior solutions, reinforcing its commitment to delivering sustainable building materials that meet the ever-evolving needs of the industry.

FireLITE® Type X Lightweight Drywall Panel is an interior drywall panel consisting of a non-combustible, fire-resistant Type X gypsum core enclosed in a 100% recycled ivory-colored face paper and a strong liner back paper. The lightweight panel offers superior fire resistance of up to four hours in various wall assemblies and is more than 10% lighter versus standard 5/8” Type X drywall options. Designed to meet stringent fire safety codes, this drywall panel is an ideal solution for a wide range of commercial environments, including office buildings, healthcare facilities, educational institutions and hospitality spaces. Moreover, FireLITE® Type X Lightweight Drywall Panels are GREENGUARD® Gold certified and provide raw material transparency through Health Product Declarations.

“We are thrilled to introduce a lightweight drywall solution to our portfolio of interior products designed to benefit our customers,” said James Dimitrakopoulos, director of product management and technical services for Gypsum & Insulation. “FireLITE® Type X lightweight drywall panels are designed to enhance safety, efficiency and ease of installation providing many advantages to contractors. In fact, we estimate that the average contractor will be lifting 3,000 pounds less per week*, about the weight of a small SUV!”

By adding this high-performance drywall to its lineup, CertainTeed continues to provide architects, contractors and developers with a comprehensive range of solutions for modern commercial interiors. The new drywall panel integrates seamlessly with CertainTeed’s existing systems with the contractor in mind, such as the NO-COAT® PRO automated drywall corner machine, ensuring a complete, high-quality interior construction experience.
