Since it was established in 2019, Beacon of Hope, a program by Beacon Building Products, continues to make a profound impact by providing deserving military veterans and their families with safe, durable roofs. Through partnerships with local roofing companies, Beacon funds and installs new roofs for 14 residential winners and two community buildings each year. These roofs, built using Beacon’s TRI-BUILT® products and CertainTeed materials, symbolize more than shelter – they represent a commitment to giving back to those who have already given so much.
This year’s winners include inspiring individuals whose stories remind us of the sacrifices made by veterans and their families. Here are some of the remarkable recipients:
Joshua K. – Anderson, Indiana
A 12-year Navy veteran and former rescue swimmer, Joshua served aboard the USS Harry S. Truman in the Persian Gulf. His career, marked by dedication and sacrifice, came to an end due to permanent joint and spinal injuries, resulting in chronic pain and a 100% disability rating. His wife Krista shared their story, emphasizing the challenges they faced transitioning to civilian life to provide stability for their daughter, Alice. With a new roof, Beacon offers Joshua and his family the security and comfort they deserve.
Brian D. – Attleboro, Massachusetts
A Marine Corps veteran, Brian served two tours in Iraq and dedicated himself to aiding fellow veterans upon his return. As a commander of VFW Post 115, Brian initiated a volunteer program to assist disabled veterans with yard cleanup – a service he continues to lead today. Facing financial strain after his insurance company mandated urgent roof repairs, Brian’s Beacon of Hope recognition ensures that his home will remain safe while he continues to serve his community.
Albert B.’s family – Barefoot Bay, Florida
The Beacon of Hope program also honors the legacy of veterans through their families. Albert’s widow, Leanne, has tirelessly volunteered in his honor, marching in 20-mile ruck marches to support veterans despite her own hardships. Living in a deteriorating modular home with her two young sons, Leanne faced significant challenges with a leaking roof and weakening infrastructure. Beacon’s gift of a new roof ensures a safer and more secure environment for her family.
Daniel W. – Boonville, Missouri
At 84 years old, Navy veteran Daniel embodies a lifetime of service. Having served during the Vietnam Conflict, Daniel has also supported his community as a barber for 39 years. Nominated by his son, who noted the family’s long Navy tradition, Daniel now receives a well-deserved roof replacement to ensure his remaining years are spent comfortably and safely. This gesture honors not only his military service but also his decades of dedication to his family and community.
