Celebrating the journey to roofing excellence

Beacon Celebrating the journey to roofing excellence
July 27, 2024 at 6:00 a.m.

By Emma Peterson.

Beacon’s 2024 Female Roofing Professional of the Year is Brooke Laizure! Hear about her journey to success on the roof.

Each year, Beacon Building Products bestows the title of Female Roofing Professional of the Year to a woman in the roofing industry! This awardee is chosen through a public nomination process and highlights how that individual’s journey and work strengthen the communities we live in. The 2024 winner of this award is Brooke Laizure, who is the owner of Whirlwind Roofing and Construction, LLC. In an episode of Roofing Road Trips®, Megan Ellsworth got a chance to talk to her about her journey and experience operating a Native American and woman-owned business.

Brooke shared that her journey in the industry started as a bit of an accident, saying, “I was going to college and basically had a break for summer and my dad was a roofing sales manager for another company and I just started to ride along with him and getting on roofs.” From there, she was hooked. Brooke also noted that seeing other women in the traditionally male-dominated industry was a huge factor in her confidence moving into the roofing business. She explained, “I saw other women like Becca Switzer teaching people how to sell roofs, and then Alina Wilson about the supplementing process. And it just really opened my eyes that women could do this as a career path.” And so, in 2016, Brooke and her dad started their company, Whirlwind.

Winning Beacon’s Female Roofing Professional of the Year is something that Brooke had never even imagined when she started the company eight years ago. She explained some of the emotions that come with the title, saying, “It was shocking and very humbling. I'm so grateful to be the winner. It still hasn't sunk in yet, to be honest. I didn't even know I was nominated until they called me and told me I was a finalist. You just really don't know how much support you have in your community until something like this happens to you.”
