In a recent Roofing Road Trips® podcast episode, host Megan Ellsworth sat down for a conversation with the Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association (FRSA's) Chriswell. They dove into FRSA's century-long history and its pivotal role in the roofing industry.
Celebrating its 100th anniversary, the FRSA has become a cornerstone for roofing professionals. Matt Chriswell, FRSA president, shared, "Last year was our 100th anniversary... Some of those issues were ones that we still talk about today," With a commitment to addressing industry challenges, from workers' compensation to unlicensed contractors, FRSA stands as an example of the resilience of roofing professionals.
With roots dating back to a 1922 meeting in Daytona Beach, FRSA has continuously tackled industry challenges like workers' compensation and unethical practices. Lisa Pate, who has worked with FRSA for 38 years, talked about the association's stature in the Southeast. "We are the largest regional and the longest-running regional show," she stated.
FRSA has made a significant impact on regional and national levels. Beyond networking and trade shows, FRSA members actively participate in legislative advocacy, consumer education and offers resources such as a distinct credit union for roofing contractors. "Our building also has a training center... it's a very good benefit for the industry," Lisa emphasized.
Matt is optimistic about FRSA's future. "I have no doubt in my mind that [FRSA] gets either stronger or better in any capacity," he said. He showed his confidence in the association's ability to lead and innovate for another century. Through its storied dedication and service, FRSA has played a crucial role in shaping the roofing industry, standing as a pillar of progress and collaboration.
