Beacon Female Roofing Professional of the Year 2023
May 23, 2023 at 6:00 a.m.

By Cayden Wemple.

One North American female roofer will win $10,000 and be crowned the Female Roofer of the Year.

Presented by Beacon Building Products, the North American Female Roofer of the Year Award will be bestowed upon a woman who leads by example. Beacon has called upon the roofing community to nominate remarkable women who have faced adversity or gone above and beyond for customers, colleagues, or their communities, and now it is time to cast your vote. The roofing industry wants to celebrate these women for their unwavering resilience and exceptional contributions to the industry as a whole. This year’s winner will be awarded $10,000 (USD) and four runners up will be awarded $1,000 (USD) that can go towards advancing their professional careers. This year’s finalists are:

Candy Caboverde

Candy is the president of City Roofing in Miami, Florida. Shortly after Hurricane Wilma in 2006, Candy and her husband formed City Roofing with a mission to treat homeowners with compassion and respect. Since then, she has helped build one of the most respected roofing companies in South Florida, generating over 1,500 five-star reviews online.

Mishell Cox

Mishell is the CEO/Owner of Cox Roofing in Zionsville, Indiana. When she was only 16, she immigrated to the United States without knowing any English. This didn’t stop her from earning her GED and graduating from Indiana State University. Her roofing company quickly took off and has generated hundreds of job opportunities for her Latino community. Mishell represents women in the labor market, such as the National Women in Roofing and the National Women in Business and collects resources to assist struggling individuals in Mexico and other Latin American countries.

Samanntha De Coteau

Samantha is the owner of Summit Sisters Roofing in Welland, Ontario, Canada. Samanntha, a prominent figure on Facebook with nearly 290k followers, leads by example by sharing her expertise and insights. She is known as a brand ambassador for Primeline Tools and is dedicated to empowering women. In 2022, she organized "The Summit Sisters," a documentary highlighting female roofers to inspire and encourage women in the industry. Samanntha actively participates in events like The Blue-Collar American Dream Conference and supports the Native Women's Association of Canada.

Michelle Ly Hall

Michelle is the operations manager of Hall Roofing and Construction in Round Rock, Texas. With a strong commitment to her community, she passionately supports various military philanthropies. She holds influential roles as a member of the Board of Directors for the YMCA, Williamson County Children's Advocacy Center, and Round Rock Rotary. Additionally, she serves as a co-chair for the UT KD Chapter Advisory Board, providing valuable guidance. Her dedication to public service is evident as an elected official on the Round Rock City Council, where she actively contributes to shaping the city's future.

Nina Zunt

Nina is the owner of EHS Maryland LLC in Dundalk, Maryland. Nina is a hands-on boss who trains everyone from the most inexperienced roofer on cleanup duty to the experts on the roof. During COVID, Nina ensured her employees and their families were supported financially and provided with food. She is determined to break gender barriers in a male-dominated industry. Nina offers internships to women of color and speaks at schools to increase awareness of the trades.
