California Representative Visits Roofing Company

RCS California Representative
April 22, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.

By Lauren White, RCS Reporter.

Representative Katie Porter shares the impact Roofing Day in D.C. had on her.

Earlier in March, Representative Katie Porter, the U.S. Representative for California, visited Antis Roofing and Waterproofing to discuss issues the roofing industry faces.  She was hosted by Charles Antis, one of our RCS Influencers, the Antis Roofing and Waterproofing team, and Will Lorenz, the general manager for General Coatings Manufacturing Corp.

While there, Representative Porter shared how meaningful it was that Charles brought a “regular employee” to attend Roofing Day in D.C. 2019.  She was speaking about Jesus Zermeno, Antis Roofing and Waterproofing Field Supervisor. His attendance and hearing what he had to say left a big impact on her.

In a video posted by Antis Roofing and Waterproofing, Representative Porter shared, “I get lots of people who want to meet with me in D.C., and you’re the first business who has brought one of your employees with you, not an executive, but an employee.  Most people bring their kid or their number two...but it really meant a lot to me that you were giving your employees a literal voice in Washington, that you understand how important their voice is.”

Roofing Day in D.C. is an event organized by the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA).  Roofing professionals meet with their respective members of Congress and discuss critical issues facing the roofing industry.  This unique and exciting opportunity to descend on Capitol Hill makes a lasting impression on legislators. Last year, more than 500 roofing professionals attended Roofing Day in D.C.

“I want you to know how much it matters when regular people show up in Washington...And that helps me understand better who are the people who make our economy work,” stated Representative Porter.  NRCA encourages their members to meet with their elected officials not only in Washington, D.C., but also at home.

Although Roofing Day in D.C. 2020 is cancelled due to the coronavirus, plans are in place for next year’s event.  Save the date for March 23-24, 2021 and bring your employees so they can help make a difference for your business and for the roofing industry.
