California Luxury Home Wins Award for Metal Roof

ATAS California luxury home
November 19, 2022 at 12:00 p.m.

This home’s intricate roof included several roof penetrations and cupolas, as well as varying roof planes and angles.

The first-place winner in ATAS International’s 2021 project of the year competition in the residential roofs category is a private residence in Temecula, California. Dutch Seam in Dove Grey 24-gauge steel were chosen by the homeowner. The panels are also available in aluminum, copper and zinc. For this project, the panels have a smooth finish and are 15” in width, with a seam height of 1-1/2”. This home’s intricate roof included several roof penetrations and cupolas, as well as varying roof planes and angles.

Dutch Seam is a continuous standing seam panel with an integral seam. It is a highly engineered wind and rain resistant panel system, designed for strength and durability. The integral lock, seam design, and clip prevent rotation of the seam and provides a stronger interlock during an uplift event. These standing seam panels will protect this luxury home for many years, and the light grey color with the cool paint pigments will help to reflect the sun’s rays in southern California, with a solar reflectance index (SRI) of 55. ATAS offers many colors with high SRI values, which can be found on their website.

Should this homeowner wish to add solar panels to their roof later, the standing seam metal roof panels are “solar ready.” Metal is the ideal choice for both crystalline and BIPV (building integrated photovoltaic) solar systems because of its long service life. When installing a crystalline system (typically warranted for 25 years of power generation), a building owner benefits from a roofing substrate that has a greater life expectancy than the solar panels. Standing seam metal panels also provide a natural platform for attaching crystalline systems without any roof penetrations. Additionally, highly reflective roofs with cooler rooftop temperatures result in better performance of solar panels.

The Dutch Seam panels, installed by Howard & Sons, Inc. of San Bernardino, California, were purchased through JB Wholesale/SRS of Riverside, California.
