Building her way to the top

Beacon Michelle Ly Hall Grand Prize Winner
March 18, 2024 at 6:00 a.m.

By Emma Peterson.

Meet Michelle Ly Hall, Beacon’s 2023 Female Roofer of the Year!

In this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, Heidi J. Ellsworth went southeast to meet one of the founders of Hall Roofing and Construction, Michelle Ly Hall. Michelle was picked through a public vote to be the 2023 recipient of the Beacon Building Products Female Roofer of the Year Award and has earned it through her extensive career.

At Hall Roofing, Michelle works as the operation manager with Erik Hall, her husband. In a single day she might provide guidance in a myriad of areas, including field sales, operations, production, HR, customer service, marketing, estimate writing and more. But that’s not all, she explains, “In addition to a roofing company, we own and operate a few bars and restaurants here in the local area.” On top of all that, the couple has a daughter and Michelle explains that her true full-time job is caring for her.

Michelle keeps herself busy and has been grinding her way to the top through years of work. She credits her parents for her motivation, “My parents are Vietnamese refugees and they came to America after the war. They didn't have money, didn't know English and became the American dream. With their hard work my siblings and I were college educated, but ultimately, they just worked hard.”

She also credits her experiences growing up with some of her success today, explaining, "English is our first language now, but growing up it did not start that way. And that has also given me a different view on things like I am able to communicate in now three languages, I can communicate in Spanish as well.” Her experience with intercultural exchanges growing up has given her a boost on her rise in the roofing industry. Michelle shares, “I can really put myself in their shoes. Not only do normal homeowners not understand this policy, but now we're talking about, it's written in English, a language they aren't even confident on.” The core of her and Erik’s business is making that understandable and straightforward, which has brought them their success.

Check out the 2024 award and meet more amazing women in the industry like Michelle.
