Build tiny homes, build community and give back!

IB Roof Hope Factory Sound Foundations
December 26, 2023 at 3:00 p.m.

By Dani Sheehan.

Join IB Roof Systems and Sound Foundations NW in their material drive and fundraiser to fight homelessness in the Seattle area.

Looking for ways to get more involved with your community and give back to those in need? IB Roof Systems is working to organize a material drive and fundraiser for Sound Foundations NW, an organization in Seattle, Washington, that builds tiny homes to help end homelessness. Having already gained the support of National Women in Roofing (NWiR), the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC) and the Roofing Contractors Association of Washington (RCAW), they want to extend the invitation to the greater roofing community to give your time, talents, materials or monetary donation. Be part of the solution to end homelessness by building transitional tiny homes for the Seattle area.

Choose to volunteer February 20 or 21, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sound Foundations NW location in Seattle, Washington, or donate money or materials if you can’t make it in person.

Why do transitional tiny home villages work to end homelessness?

  • When tiny home villages become available, new residents have access to counseling, administrative help, education and treatment options
  • The transition rate from tiny home to permanent housing is currently 56%, one of the highest rates among homeless shelter options
  • Last year, Sound Foundations NW helped over 2000 individuals transition from homelessness to permanent housing by providing transitional tiny homes

How can you help in making a difference?

  • The material costs for one tiny home are around $4,500. Residents typically stay in a tiny home for 114 days, which means 3 people per year can transition to a better life. Built to last 20 years, one tiny home has the potential to help up to 60 people!
  • Seattle has the third largest homeless population behind New York and Los Angeles. There are currently 21 tiny home villages with about 750 tiny homes. It is because of volunteers, donations and federal and state money that this has been possible. Every hour of time means one nail or painted wall closer to making a difference.

Sound Foundations NW is built on four pillars: Build tiny homes, Build community, Be safe and Have fun! We hope to see you there to make a difference in ending homelessness and to show the roofing community’s commitment to giving back.
