Bouncing back from the pandemic

IIBEC Bouncing back from the pandemic
August 11, 2024 at 3:00 p.m.

By Emma Peterson.

With over 40 years of experience, IIBEC knows how to make a comeback.

In this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, Megan Ellsworth spoke to Brian Pallasch about the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC)’s international convention and trade show. Brian is well-versed in this topic as he is the CEO and executive vice president of the organization. He shared a bit of its history, “For those who might have some gray hair, IIBEC used to be Roof Consultants Inc. The organization was formed all the way back in 1983.” It wasn’t until 2019 that the name officially changed over to IIBEC, and they expanded their focus to all sides of the building.

Put simply, IIBEC is a collection of industry and design professionals that work with roofing, exterior walls, waterproofing systems and more — anything that falls under the umbrella of building enclosure projects. Brian explained, “This all is an area of interest for owners, and we ensure that those structures follow standards and codes and work with owners on warranty requirements and performance requirements.” One way they do this is with their international convention and trade show, which dates back to 1986. With 40 years of experience in the industry, IIBEC has seen many changes and challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

This was high on the mind of Brian and his team back in March as they prepared for their international convention and trade show in Phoenix, Arizona — a location they were returning to for the first time since the pandemic. Brian shared a bit of what that experience was like, “The last time we were in Phoenix was at the tail end of the pandemic and we actually had to move our meeting to September. It was a scaled-back convention in 2021.” This year, Brian and IIBEC made sure Phoenix got the show they wanted to put on in 2021. They had upwards of 1500 attendees, over 100 exhibitors and a myriad of new educational programming.

Read the transcript or Listen to the podcast to hear more about how Brian and IIBEC have been putting together a fabulous show since 1986.
