Beat the heat with this free certification training!

CRRC Beat the heat with this free certification training!
July 14, 2024 at 3:00 p.m.

By Emma Peterson.

With the extreme heat challenges increasing in areas like California, it is more important than ever to learn to build climate-resilient communities.

More and more areas have become climate stressed in recent years. California is one of those places and those that live in the state can attest to the profound impacts this has had on their daily lives and the weather outside their home. It can be challenging to know what to do to help home and building owners adapt to these shifts, which is why this extreme heat for construction professionals training on Friday, August 2 is a perfect opportunity to learn! Running online from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. PDT, this training will teach you how to build structures prepared for extreme heat challenges.

Learning how to build with the awareness of the effects of climate change is the key to increasing the resilience of communities, natural systems and our built environment. This training is built upon establishing a foundational understanding of what short and long-term effects of extreme heat are on worker and community health with strategies to mitigate the negative impacts.

It will be presented by Robert Carr and Elizabeth Christy. Robert is a green building expert who has worked on multiple LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) projects in the San Diego region. He also dedicates himself to the equitable battle when it comes to climate challenges, volunteering for San Diego 350 and the San Diego Building Electrification Coalition to advocate for sustainable spaces for all community-members.  Elizabeth holds a degree in environmental studies and focuses on regenerative landscape and urban design that is guided by community health needs and environmental justice. In a role as a project manager for Eco Urban Gardens she developed and implemented farm-to-table and farm-to-school programs that combine her focuses.

This expert duo will help those working face-to-face with residents, homeowners, property managers and building owners how to choose products and practices that make buildings more resilient to the increasingly damaging and costly effects of climate change.
