Bob Stevens, Jr. is the owner of Southern Roofing and Insulating Co. and he believes in the importance of helping others who are stuck in a seemingly impossible situation. That is the plight of the two million women and children who are victims of sex trafficking in the United States each year, according to the State Department.
When a local, Georgia anti-trafficking organization let the community know that it was in need of a new roof for its safe house, Stevens felt the call to help. “Sex trafficking is just such a heinous crime,” Stevens said. “How someone can treat another person like that is something I can’t understand. The women who have found their way to this shelter have been through so much. Putting a roof on the building is our way of helping them and the organization that is doing so much for them.”
Stevens reached out to Atlas Roofing and they were proud to donate the 75 squares of Atlas Pinnacle Pristine shingles that it would take to reroof the safe house. Atlas sales representative Brad Dunn said that Atlas is always glad to help their contractors give back to their communities. “This is the first time we have been involved in a project that supports an effort like this and we are happy to have been a part of it,” said Dunn.
To guard the privacy of the women who stay at the shelter, Stevens could not release any more details about the project.
Georgia is ranked sixth in the nation for sex trafficking according to a recent report by the National Human Trafficking Resource Center with Atlanta being one of 14 U.S. cities with the highest rate of children used in prostitution.
If you suspect someone may be a victim of trafficking, contact local law enforcement, the National Human Trafficking Resource Center at 1-888-373-7888, or a trafficking relief organization.
