Reed Gooding took over his family roofing business, GSM Roofing, after his mom was stricken with Alzheimer’s disease. He watched his father provide 10 years of care and support as his mom slowly slipped away. When he learned of the Alzheimer’s Association’s The Longest Day fundraising event he understood its importance immediately explaining that as he watched his dad caring for his mother, every day was his dad’s longest day.
The fundraiser encourages individuals and business to come up with an activity that takes place on the summer solstice - the longest day of the year – to raise funds for the for the care, support and research efforts of Alzheimer’s Association. Gooding came up with the #AnHour4Alz which asks every working person in America to donate just one hour of their paycheck to support caregivers and work for a cure for this terrible disease.
Gooding says that as he has become more involved with the Alzheimer’s Association he has learned that long days for caregivers is not a rare or unique story. He started his fundraising team for all of the caregivers, paid and unpaid, to show support for the work that they do for our loved ones with Alzheimer's or other dementias.
As an industry, we are very proud of what Reed Gooding and his family are doing and we encourage you to join his efforts by considering a donation of one hour of your paycheck to this worthy cause. The RoofersCoffeeShop.com is in! We hope all of you will consider helping with this amazing cause!
