RoofersCoffeeShop is sharing another great RLW – Read Listen Watch presentation on the RISE (Roofing Individuals Succeed through Education) Scholarship program from WTI - Weatherproofing Technologies, Inc. a subsidiary of Tremco. Please learn with Amie Grant, WTI Education and Community Outreach Coordinator and Joey Lee III, WTI Construction Manager as they discuss with Heidi Ellsworth the opportunities through Akron University to obtain a construction degree.
RISE was created in collaboration with the University of Akron with roofing professional needs and aspirations in mind. Through the program, WTI offers 100% of online tuition. Once accepted students can gain invaluable work experience as a part-time or full-time WTI employee. Participants in the program can choose between an Associate of Science degree or a Bachelor of Organizational Supervision degree, both in Construction Management. The webinar which is also featuring a podcast and written interview, will layout the process to obtain a construction degree with real-life success stories.
The RLW features Amie Grant who is WTI’s Education and Community Outreach Coordinator. She is also the Education Chair for the Cleveland, Ohio Chapter of National Women in Roofing. Before joining WTI in 2017, Amie spent almost a decade working with low-income individuals and families in a social services role and served on the board of the local Homeless Task Force. She received her master’s degree in education from Cleveland State University.
Joining Amie is Joey Lee, a Lead Foreman for WTI in Eastern TN and has been an employee of WTI since October of 2008. Through his ten years with WTI, he has completed OSHA 30-hour training, received his Registered Roof Observer (RRO) certification through RCI and is currently going to school utilizing the RISE program at Akron University for a degree in Construction Engineering.
The webinar which took place March 13, 2019, at 11 am PST will share how interested candidates can complete a degree while working full- or part-time and how to pay for coursework. The University of Akron (UA) and WTI are proud to offer RISE, an exclusive educational partnership that brings new opportunities to candidates to first become a WTI employee and then take part along with their family in the RISE program. Under the new partnership, WTI employees can enroll in an online, step-up, associate-to-bachelor’s degree program in construction management from UA’s College of Applied Science and Technology. The company pays 100% of the tuition for WTI employees and their dependents; coursework can be completed on a full- or part-time schedule. There is no commitment to stay at WTI and no payback.
Students begin in the Associate of Science in Construction Management track and have the option to continue to complete the Bachelor of Organizational Supervision in Construction Management. The associate degree is perfectly aligned with the first two years of the bachelor’s degree, so students who elect to continue their education can flow seamlessly into the bachelor’s degree option. Joey and Amie shared real-life experiences in how the RISE program is helping WTI employees earn a college degree for free.
