At the 2024 FRSA show, Karen Edwards sat down with Tom Christner from Rocket Equipment to discuss their innovative product, the Trash Rocket. They dive into the unique features and benefits of this mobile trash chute, particularly its impact on the roofing industry.
Tom introduces the Trash Rocket, describing it as a "mobile trash chute" that has become a prominent fixture at the Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association (FRSA) trade show. The flagship model extends up to 50 feet, making it hard to miss on the trade show floor. Tom explains that the Trash Rocket is especially popular in Florida, where it’s commonly seen on job sites for multi-family apartment complexes, condo communities and other buildings with three or four stories. Contractors are keen to learn more about the Trash Rocket, frequently asking questions about its cost and the equipment needed to tow it.
One of the primary benefits of the Trash Rocket, Tom notes, is safety. "You can push the chute into the roof a little deeper so the employees are not actually near the edge," he explains. The new model also features two cylinders that allow for a higher discharge height, accommodating various refuse containers, including large dump trucks and 30-yard dumpsters. This versatility has led to positive feedback from users. "People are surprised at how well it fits into so many jobs," says Tom, adding that it's not just limited to typical projects but also finds use in hotels, warehouses, schools and even county jails.
The Trash Rocket’s adaptability is a significant selling point. Tom recounts how some customers tow it to project sites and use it as a visual aid in proposals. This approach has proven effective, particularly for clients concerned about protecting their property during roofing projects. "If they have expensive rose bushes or nice shrubbery, they're absolutely thrilled," he says.
For those interested in adding a Trash Rocket to their fleet, Tom covers the options available. Contractors can rent a unit for short-term needs or purchase one for longer-term use. Rocket Equipment maintains inventory in Atlanta, ensuring a relatively quick delivery time. "Typically, if you order a unit, it's probably two or three weeks, maybe a month at this point," Tom estimates.
