2 Benefits of Using 3D Printing Technology for Construction

With 3D printing becoming more mainstream, here are some ways construction companies can benefit from this technology.

Advancements in 3D printing have made it significantly easier for construction companies to use this technology. 3D printing is being used in this industry mostly for prototyping developments and constructing concrete walls and buildings. In an article for SFS Group USA, Serenah Pauliuc says that they have benefitted from using 3D printing technology in a variety of ways, including creating calibration templates for their Isoweld backpack® system.

SFS Group also has been using 3D printers to create prototypes for their product designs. An example of this is when they were designing a new beveled washer, they used a 3D printer to decide if the washer had the proper dimensions. Since SFS Group has found success using 3D printing technology, they say that there are at least two benefits 3D printing technology has to offer:

1 – Increased efficiency

Staying on track with construction projects is crucial as no company wants to have to push back their deadlines. SFS Group states that 3D printing helps construction businesses complete their projects more efficiently. This technology is widely known for its speedy processing and by using it, construction companies will find it takes less time to complete their projects if they implement this technology.

2 – Waste reduction

With waste being a common problem in construction projects, 3D printing can be a valuable resource to help minimize waste. Serenah states that 3D printing only uses the exact amount of material needed for a job. “Construction teams can leverage materials locally available for development, minimizing emissions from shipping components and the dangers of toxic materials on-site,” she says. “3D printing also provides the opportunity to repair tools that would otherwise be destined for the landfill.”
