How to Position Your Marketing Efforts to go Viral – Part 1

Your guide to earning homeowner’s attention online…in a web already full of engaging content.

It’s not news that the digital world has a huge grip on society. Selfies, memes, and videos make up most of the internet’s engaging content these days…which makes the internet the perfect place for your roofing business to attract new customers. Going viral is not a matter of luck either, and in this recent Surefire Local webinar, Angel Djambazov, co-founder at Seattle-based Lab6 Media, shows the keys to creating your very own viral digital marketing content.

According to Statista, 70 percent of the U.S. population has at least one social media profile. Fifty-nine percent of people access social media every day or most days. The challenge though for contractors is to get customers to listen to them on social media. This is most likely because they are having one-way conversations (all about me-style), not inviting their customers to be a part of their story or answering customers’ questions.

The key is to engage your customers and spark conversations. Before a photo, video, etc. can go viral, the audience first has to listen or be engaged with you. So, how do you do that? Here are some ideas that work for engagement:

Contests. These are a great way to get people engaged. Consider giving away a product or service or something related to the work you do. Maybe a set of tools might be something that you give away. Contests can be held on any social media platform but remember that Facebook, as well as all the others, have legal rules about the contest and you want to be sure to follow them. Usually, what will happen is, if you start a contest that doesn't follow one of their rules, they'll just take it down before anybody takes part.

Informative content. How-to videos and blogs that help potential customers solve their problem creates a positive experience for that person and will likely bring them back to your site and have them follow you on social media. If someone follows you on YouTube, all of their friends are going to see your content as suggested videos. The more informative and helpful your content, the more likely people will be to engage with it and even share it.

Be responsive. Many times, people will interact with businesses on a social media platform. They expect you to be responsive and answer any of their questions quickly. If you receive a message on your Facebook page, take the time to respond and set up instant replies. If someone comments and asks a question in relation to one of your posts, be sure to reply.
