Everything You Need to Know About NRCA Roofing Day in Washington D.C. March 6 – 7, 2018 

NRCA Roofing Day is bringing together roofing professionals from throughout the U.S. for the first and largest advocacy event of its kind dedicated solely to the roofing industry.  

You have the unique opportunity to join hundreds of fellow roofing professionals March 6-7 in Washington, D.C., for Roofing Day in D.C. 2018. This is a unique and exciting opportunity as we will descend on Capitol Hill and speak with one voice as a united industry! 

We welcome all segments of the roofing industry, including contractors, architects, consultants, manufacturers, distributors, service providers and other roofing professionals to communicate our message to members of Congress and their staffs on Capitol Hill. Help us reach our goal of having 1,000 roofing professionals participate to deliver our message with one voice! 

What’s included 

The nominal registration fee of $49 includes the following: 

• A reception Tuesday night, March 6, featuring speaker Mick Mulvaney, former South Carolina congressman and current director of the federal Office of Management and Budget. 
• A breakfast Wednesday, March 7, featuring Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) and training following the breakfast on the issues we will focus on and how to best communicate with members of Congress 
• Your congressional appointments will be scheduled for you; they will begin Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. and end at approximately 5 p.m. that day 
• Bus transportation to Capitol Hill for your appointments 

The issues 

The issues that have been selected for discussion with members of Congress are issues on which there is broad support within the roofing industry. For Roofing Day in D.C. 2018, we will focus on three issues: regulatory reform, workforce development and immigration reform. 

Regulatory reform: The roofing industry supports the Regulatory Accountability Act (RAA), bipartisan legislation (S. 951) aimed to reduce burdensome regulations by reforming the regulatory development process. The RAA is designed to provide more transparency and accountability in the regulatory development process, helping ensure new regulations are less burdensome on employers and economic growth. The roofing industry believes regulatory reform is critical to ensuring excessive regulation does not prevent U.S. employers from growing their businesses and creating jobs. 

Workforce development: The roofing industry supports legislation to address the chronic workforce shortages in the industry by improving career and technical education (CTE). The roofing industry supports the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act, bipartisan legislation (H.R. 2353) to make CTE programs more responsive to the workforce needs of employers. 

Immigration reform: Roofing industry employers provide good jobs for qualified workers but face chronic workforce shortages because of an aging workforce and other demographic trends. Immigration reform is vital to addressing future workforce needs of the roofing industry, and sensible reforms should end illegal immigration without encouraging a black-market economy. The roofing industry supports immigration reforms that include increased border security, improved workplace enforcement, providing for temporary workers to enter the U.S. legally when our economy needs them, and addressing the existing unauthorized workforce in a balanced manner.

NRCA is looking for team captains from each state. To be a team captain, you agree to participate in Roofing Day in D.C. 2018, assist in promoting the event and recruit industry colleagues from your state. (NRCA will assist you.) Team captains will receive reimbursement for one night’s hotel stay (room and tax) and recognition at the breakfast March 7.

Rooms for Roofing Day in D.C. 2018 have been secured at the Marriott Marquis hotel in Washington, D.C. ([800] 228-9290), which is the primary hotel for Roofing Day in D.C. 2018. Please make your reservation directly with the Marriott. Make sure to reference Roofing Day in D.C. 2018 to obtain the group rate of $309 (plus tax) per night. Please make your hotel reservation before Monday, Feb. 12. After Feb. 12, the Marriott cannot guarantee rooms or our group room rate.
