Successful sealant specification, design, and installation requires consideration of the unique characteristics of different sealants. Generic sealant treatment will likely lead to sealant failure and loss of building tightness. This presentation will show the student the importance of proper sealant joint design, including factors that cause joint failure, such as poor joint design or application. Additionally, this presentation will focus on joint movement and behavior guides, substrate movement during cure, incompatible materials, UV resistance, and surface preparation.
Course / webinar objectives:
1. Understand the purpose of sealant installation
2. Recognize and discuss the causes of sealant failure and how to prevent it
3. Determine the most appropriate sealant based on the type of joint and its design and app.
