How technology can help with ASCE 7-16 compliance

Estimating Edge ASCE 7-16
May 1, 2024 at 9:00 p.m.

By Dani Sheehan.

With Estimating Edge’s newest software feature, roofing contractors no longer need to face hurdles in keeping up with building code compliance. Save time and avoid errors with this new tool to provide estimates quickly and accurately.

The EDGE® construction estimating software makes it easy for commercial subcontractors to prepare accurate estimates with efficiency and consistency. Not only is it completely customized to your trade, but it’s also customized to your business, providing the exact materials and manufacturers you need to be successful.

Estimating Edge has introduced a new feature, Roof Zone Layout/Perimeter 2, in its software to further assist commercial roofing estimators. This feature simplifies compliance with ASCE 7-16, a key component of the International Building Code concerning structural loads. Users of the EDGE can now switch between ASCE 7-16 standards and other standards using a simple toggle, streamlining the estimation process by reducing the need for manual recalculations.

ASCE 7-16 provides guidelines for managing the loads buildings must withstand – be it wind, snow, seismic activities or other environmental impacts. Failure to comply with these standards can result in significant safety hazards, hefty fines and increased liability for contractors.

The new feature fits into ASCE 7-16 compliance by directly incorporating the standard into the software’s functionality, ensuring that roofing contractors can easily meet the latest structural requirements during the estimation phase of their projects. This integration helps reduce errors, saves time and ensures that projects adhere to critical safety and legal standards.

To date, EDGE is one of the only programs with built-in ASCE 7-16 compliance. Learn more about its cutting-edge features and become an industry leader in estimating with the EDGE
