By Evelyn Witterholt, RCS Reporter.

Strong communication is key when recommending this high-performing product to new clients.

If your contracting company already offers or is considering offering composite slate roofing, but you don’t quite know how to communicate its features, don’t fret! In this recent Read, Listen, Watch  (RLW™), we got all the tips on recommending composite slate roofing from Jeff Karo, the regional sales manager from DaVinci Roofscapes, Scott Kim from WGM Contracting and Chad Janisch from the Shake Guys.

What makes DaVinci composite roofing stand out is that it's made using only virgin resin rather than recycled materials. Their slate materials imitate the look of natural slate but are far more durable, lighter in weight and higher performing. Scott spoke highly of his experience using the slate and stated that he uses the product for a large portion of his roofing projects. Chad feels the same way about the composite shake materials from DaVinci.

Selling to homeowners

But how do you communicate to homeowners that they should consider composite roofing? These contractors say that one of the best things you can do is talk about all the benefits of the material. Along with the roof being Class A fire and Class 4 impact rated, it also comes with a Lifetime Limited Materials Warranty. Being educated on how the composite roofing compares to other roof types will help you better inform customers.

Chad says that “once you learn about synthetic roofing, how it performs compared to an asphalt roof, a wood shake roof, snow retention, should they have it, should they not have it, how it's made with virgin resins versus post-consumer resins that are recyclable,” you’ll have a better chance of winning a customer over.

The contractors also recommend creating a marketing plan with DaVinci Roofscapes’ help to get the word out about your new service. Spending money on a Facebook ad or a direct mail piece can let customers know you are offering this low maintenance/high performing product that they might not be aware of.

“I think DaVinci offers some great (marketing) programs,” Chad said. “They can offer pictures of DaVinci roofs that have been replaced that a contractor could use to create a marketing piece.”
