An innovative path towards sustainability

Akzonobel Innovative Sustainability

This white paper addresses how innovative coatings can help improve energy efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint of buildings.

AkzoNobel, a leading global paints and coatings company, has recently launched a white paper regarding how coil coatings can contribute to a sustainable environment.

This document is part of AkzoNobel's initiative to guide the construction industry towards more sustainable practices, mainly focusing on the significant role that modern coatings and digital technologies play in enhancing the environmental sustainability of buildings.

The white paper highlights how advancements in coating technology can substantially lower CO2 emissions and promote circularity — emphasizing the principles of reduce, reuse and recycle — within the construction sector. "Modern cool chemistry coatings can reduce the temperature of a building’s roof by around 20°C/ 36°F, which significantly lowers energy consumption, and consequently, Scope 3 downstream emissions," explains Americas Commercial Marketing Manager, Coil and Extrusion Coatings at AkzoNobel, Amanda Paterline. Her statement shows the potential of innovative coatings to improve energy efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint of buildings.

The white paper addresses the impending increase in regulatory measures to propel the industry towards the net-zero targets set for 2050. These regulations will impact coil manufacturers, their clients and suppliers, all of whom play crucial roles in enhancing the sustainability of the built environment.

Amanda also discusses how coatings contribute to the longevity and recyclability of metal building components, thereby supporting the circular economy. She highlights AkzoNobel's commitment to sustainability: “Our focus is reducing the amount of coating used and wasted and striving for a ‘right first time’ approach, using accurate dosing units, reusing excess paint, and implementing digital tools which assess and improve production efficiencies.”

AkzoNobel aims to assist its partners and customers in navigating the evolving sustainability landscape through this white paper, providing insights into making informed decisions that align with global net-zero objectives.
